How do we teeter the line of opposing forces?
Isn’t it ironic? The more you push, the more you get pushed back. The less you push, the more you get pushed forward. If you overwork yourself, you are burning yourself out. If you take it easy, you are lazy. It isn’t just about perception either. Eat too much, you gain too much weight. Eat too little, you will become malnourished. But it isn’t helpfully clear cut like that. Our minds trick us into complacency. Then all of a sudden we look down and don’t recognize the body’s we have crafted ourselves into.
Living with Fibromyalgia I am forced to be mindful. Is my posture okay? Have I sat too long? Stood too long? If so, my guardian angel comes and knocks me on the back of the head with a steel baseball bat. I do not exaggerate. I have to lay down. Even doing too much exercise can do this to me. But, so can too little movement too. If ever there was a lesson in balance, it would be my life. I am a walking experiment. Constantly walking into landmines, regenerating and trying again. It is like a game of Mario. Oops, you just slipped and died. Try again!
But, supposedly life doesn’t happen to you, it happens for you.
I understand the intentions, really I do, but can we call bullshit on this? We are not the sum of what happened to us! How dare we play so small with this precious life. You are a freaking magnificent creature with powers beyond measure. It is just covered up over the garbage lies we feed ourselves.
“Genetics loads the gun, Lifestyles pull the trigger.”
How do we find our way back? How do we balance? In a way, I am forced to be an expert in balancing. My body is uniquely primed to tell me when I’ve miss-stepped. I think of it as one foot on each side. We need to nurture all sides of ourselves. It is the dichotomy of two opposing forces present at the same time. We should be logical and creative, responsible and fun, treasure rest and exercise. We must accept and love the imperfection. We must accept and love the fact that we just can’t know it all. We must have faith that there are bigger forces than us, that know more. We have to release the judgement and the criticism and the self-assuredness.
One foot on each side! We have to appeal to our physical, spiritual, mental and emotional needs. Where does our passion lay? What will bring us more sense of peace? Don’t be too attached to the number of tasks we get done! Focus instead on peace. Engage both sides of the brain. We have to learn to listen in to our bodies. They give us such messages if we just listen.
This is just the start, some ideas to get the creative juices flowing. When we surround ourselves by communities that uplift us, then we all get uplifted together. Let’s connect, uplift, and journey together.
